Band Auditions

2021-2022 School Year

The purpose of these auditions is to determine which of our two concert ensembles you should be placed in for the upcoming school year. This audition is ONLY for Concert Band placement. Additional chair auditions may take place in the Fall to determine chair order within the ensembles.


Audition Requirements

All students who play wind instruments interested in participating in either Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band for the 2021-2022 school year must participate in an in-person audition in order to be considered. The audition will consist of the following:

  1. Two major scales (selected from the following: Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A)

  2. A prepared etude (found below)

  3. A sight-reading excerpt

​

Percussionists will also participate in an in-person audition that will consist of the following:

​

  1. Two major scales (selected from the following: Bb, Eb, Ab, G, D, A)

  2. A prepared mallet etude (found below)

  3. A prepared snare drum etude (found below)

​

Audition Dates

  • May 10-14: Auditions for current high school students (9-11 graders)

  • May 17-21: Auditions for current 8th graders. (We will come to your school to hear your auditions).

​

***ALL upcoming high school students (current 8-11 graders) who are currently in band will participate in the auditions, even if you do not plan on continuing in band next year.


***Remote students – Please email Ms. Miller (msmiller@tcss.net) to arrange a time to complete your audition in-person.
